Why I Give: Seashols Starks

Over the years, the reasons behind and the ways in which I give — whether it is my time, talent, or money — have grown and changed alongside my spiritual journey. When I first came to the Cathedral, I approached with a spirit of openness and keen anticipation for each week’s sermon. My initial contributions were focused on offering my time and energy, welcoming newcomers into our community, and then heading up the welcoming committee for one Sunday each month. As my involvement deepened, I took on new roles, including convening a Foyers group and participating in the Cathedral Antiques Show. Each step forward allowed me to connect more deeply with the Cathedral and parishioners.

When the invitation to pledge came, I started with a modest contribution. As my faith grew stronger, my giving increased accordingly. Both God and St. Philip’s have been steadfast presences throughout the seasons of my life, supporting me during joyful moments, times of illness, and while mourning the loss of my parents, my brother, and other loved ones.

Last year was filled with challenges, yet I continue to see the many blessings in my life. As fall and the end of 2025 approached, the word “gratitude” resonated within me. I began to ask myself: How can I share my thankfulness more fully? In what ways do I hope to increase my giving to both God and to St. Philip’s? So, when the opportunity arises, I encourage you to pray and then consider increasing your commitment even more. If not today, then when?
