The Cathedral Expands Its Commitment to Low-Income Elderly Housing

June 26, 2024

Parish GroveThe Cathedral of St. Philip has finalized a deal to lease the Cathedral Towers property to National Church Residences, a nationally-recognized leader in the affordable housing sector. National Church Residences now operates the property, and the continuing staff members have begun their transition as employees of National Church Residences. The new operators have been in regular communication with residents over the past year, in preparation for this transition. The community will now be called Parish Grove.

As noted when the transition was first announced last summer, the Cathedral is entering into this partnership for two exciting reasons. First, National Church Residences brings expertise and experience necessary to continue the tradition of care that the community has enjoyed and the ability to perform the renovations that the facility requires. This ensures that the facility will be dedicated to the mission of low-income senior housing for at least the next 99 years.

Second, the Cathedral will be able to expand its mission to low-income senior housing in Atlanta. The Cathedral has created a special fund, called the Cathedral Towers Fund, that is dedicated to improving access to and the affordability of housing and the provision of support services for low-income seniors. The fund will also continue to support the Cathedral’s mission of providing services to residents of the Towers. Indeed, the Cathedral expects to have a continuing active relationship with the Towers as part of its partnership with National Church Residences – as evidenced by the increased ministry of St. Anne’s Guild, lay chaplains from the Cathedral, and resident Bible studies led by Canon Julia Mitchener. All social services currently offered to Cathedral Towers will remain in place.

We give thanks to God for the creativity and dedication of all who are involved in the Cathedral Towers transition. For more information, contact Canon George Maxwell, gmaxwell@cathedralATL.org
