When my daughter, Allison, and her growing family moved back to Atlanta from Washington, D.C., she knew exactly where she wanted to join: the Cathedral of St. Philip. Our family has been in Atlanta since 1985. We’ve been members of Holy Innocents and All Saints and Allison was even married at All Saints. But something about the Cathedral called to her and soon to me as well.
We were drawn to The Cathedral’s vibrant community—its multi-generational families, the joyful presence of young children, and the expansive children’s ministry that felt like a promise of growth and belonging. One of the first things Allison and I did was attend a Newcomers Tour with Liz Aull, David Rocchio, and Canon Holder. In just one hour, we knew: this was home.
At the end of the tour, David gave us three simple instructions:
- Get involved.
- Get to know one of the clergy.
- Make a pledge.
Allison didn’t hesitate—she decided I should join the Flower Guild. I had just retired, and she knew I had the time and the passion. Joining the Flower Guild has been one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever given myself. It’s not just arranging flowers—it’s being part of something sacred and blessed.
Allison joined the Baptism Guild, and our granddaughters, Mabry and Gray, found their place in the Allegro Choir. Watching them sing on the altar fills our family with immense gratitude and joy.
We give because we belong. We give because we believe. We give because this church gives so much to our family.
