The Cathedral is Hiring an Associate Director of Middle School Ministries

Title: Associate Director for Middle School Ministries

The Cathedral of St. Philip is looking for a passionate, energetic, and faithful person to lead our middle school youth ministry. This position will be primarily responsible for developing programing and activities for our 5th -8th grade youth as part of the larger youth program. They will work closely with, and be under the direction of the Director of Youth Ministry and Director of Children’s Ministry as needed for special events. The middle school ministry at the Cathedral is robust, and the right leader will be able to continue to shape the ministry as it grows and thrives.

Requirements:

  • Previous youth ministry experience
  • Knowledge of the Episcopal church and associated liturgy
  • Professional communications skills both written and verbal
  • Must submit to a background check upon hiring and become certified through the Diocese of Atlanta’s Safeguarding God’s Children program.
  • Ability to lead and play music (i.e guitar) a plus

Job Description:

  • Develop lessons plans and teach on Sunday Mornings during Youth Sunday School (Grades 5-6).
  • Assist with activities during Sunday evening youth group (EYC) Grades 6-12.
  • Assist and teach youth Bible study lessons on Tuesday evenings Grades 6-12.
  • Attend and chaperone youth events, overnight youth trips, and retreats throughout the year. For example:
    • Diocesan retreats – Diocesan Youth Commission in January, New Beginnings in March and September, Happening in February and October
    • Confirmation Retreat in April
    • Mission week in the summer
    • Rafting Trip in August
  • Lead EYSeedlings activities (4th & 5th grade) – one Sunday afternoon each month
  • Assist with weekly newsletter content and development – event photography and write ups.
  • Assist with social media posts and communication updates – event photography and write ups.
  • As needed on occasion: Help with set up of special liturgical events and monitor supplies needed for events throughout the year.  For example:
    • Support children’s and youth ministry as needed with weekly Sunday morning tasks.
    • Homecoming/Ministry Fair – August
    • Halloween Costume Blessing – October
    • Advent Wreath Making – December
    • St. Nicholas Night – December
    • Living Nativity – December
    • Shrove Tuesday – April
    • Kanuga Parish Retreat – Memorial Day Weekend, May
  • Other duties as assigned
