Greetings from Australia, where I am currently serving as Professor-in-Residence with the Anglican Schools Commission in Queensland! Though I can’t be with you in person, I am deeply grateful to the Cathedral of St. Philip for hosting this Dignity Pop-Up Shop. Your support is helping transform lives across the ocean.
The vision for the Dignity Sewing Centre was born in 2023 during a pilgrimage to Cape Coast, Ghana our companion Diocese, when Mother Superior Dorcas (wife of the Bishop of Cape Coast, the Rt. Rev. Victor Atta-Bafoe), the women of Atlanta, and I began dreaming of a space where young women could learn skills, build confidence, and experience the dignity of work.
Remarkably, that dream quickly became reality as the Centre began flourishing almost immediately with mutual partnership efforts across the Atlantic. Throughout 2023 and 2024, the first cohort of young women learned practical sewing skills in a community grounded in prayer and support.
In May 2025, we gathered for a grand celebration with Bishop Victor Atta-Bafoe and Mother Superior Dorcas to officially mark the Centre’s success in Ghana. Today, the Centre is thriving: graduates leave equipped with marketable skills, dignity, and hope. We are now welcoming the second cohort of students, and some graduates will return as teachers, multiplying the impact for years to come.
Looking ahead, our strategic plan is bold: expand the Centre into other parts of the Diocese to reach even more young people and continue transforming lives through the dignity of work.
When you shop Sunday, August 10, you are shopping with purpose—empowering women, strengthening communities, and helping stitch stories of hope and dignity. Thank you for being part of this journey!
A special thank you to Malinda Shamburger from the Chattahoochee Valley Episcopal Ministry, who will be present to answer questions about the Centre and its vision for the future.
