In the next few weeks, technicians will install a new loudspeaker system to improve speech clarity in the Cathedral Nave. While the Cathedral’s gothic architecture and hard surfaces provide a beautiful acoustic for choral music, they can make the spoken word difficult to hear in some areas.
The current system—made up of aging components added over time—adds to the challenge. The new system will be fully integrated and carefully tuned to deliver even sound throughout the space. Thanks to modern technology, it will also allow speech to be directed more precisely than ever before, and ensure clear sound for years to come.
