Lovers of opera, here’s your chance to see and hear how it all began!
There are times in history when the creation of music takes a sharp right turn, and the dawning of the 17th century is such a time. The rise of individualism prompted composers like Monteverdi to write in a new, more personal style that opened the doors to opera. At the heart of Monteverdi’s seminal collection “Songs of Love and War” lies the tragic tale of Tancredi and Clorinda, lovers who find themselves fighting unwittingly on opposite sides. World-renowned bass-baritone Jesse Blumberg will dramatically guide us through the story vibrantly enacted by our talented singer/actors Karen Weston and Nathan Dougherty.

The Atlanta Symphony Brass Holiday Concert

Certain to be one of the most delightful and thrilling musical events of the season again this year, the Atlanta Symphony Brass returns to present its second annual holiday concert! The program will feature some of the finest arrangements for brass ensemble and percussion, including traditional holiday carols and beloved standards from the symphonic orchestra repertoire.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s brass section is venerated worldwide as one of the finest in North America. These musicians hail from all corners of the United States and were selected to be a part of this long-standing tradition of excellence by way of audition for a panel of ASO Brass players alongside the Music Director. They have worked tirelessly as a team to maintain the highest standards of brass playing throughout their careers and to unify their sounds into a beautiful array of colors. It is sure to be an evening of wonderful music and world-class musicianship!

This concert comes to you in titanic proportions, with famous composers, directors, and soloists all in one!
Although J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart were not innovators of a new style, they both brought established styles to perfection and rightly remain among the most famous composers to this day. World-renowned Dutch cellist and conductor Jaap ter Linden joins us as guest director for this blockbuster program that features Bach’s virtuosic Fifth Brandenburg Concerto contrasted with his dark and soulful Violin Concerto in A minor, and Mozart’s famously effervescent Eine kleine Nachtmusik featuring a star-studded line-up of soloists: Julie Andrijeski, Evan Few, Adam Jaffe, and Janice Joyce Robinson.

Lovers of Vivaldi, now is your chance to hear two of his most beloved works and be introduced to what will soon become new favorites!
Antonio Vivaldi’s influence on the 18th-century baroque world cannot be overestimated. His virtuosic, driving style mixed with poignant lyricism captured the hearts and minds of many a composer. Like Monteverdi, Vivaldi was an opera lover and created musical stories with and without vocalists, whether it be the lyrical Oboe Concerto in C Major or the jubilant Gloria. Joining us for this program are our beloved choral collaborators, the Cathedral of St Philip Schola, directed by Dale Adelmann; and Nathan Medley, one of America’s great countertenors who recently moved to Atlanta. Together, we will lead you on our musical journeys through two grippingly reverent sacred works evoking the Lenten season before catching a glimpse, through Vivaldi’s famous Gloria, of the joyous season to come.

Atlanta Summer Organ Festival Recital

Concert and recording artist Christa Rakich has performed widely throughout North America, Europe, and Japan. Near her home in Connecticut, she is Artist-in-Residence at the Congregational Church of Somers and at the Episcopal Church of St John the Evangelist in West Hartford. Past Artist-in-Residencies have included the University of Pennsylvania and First Lutheran Church in Boston. As a Fulbright scholar, Christa Rakich studied for two years with Anton Heiller at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna, Austria. She holds Bachelor’s degrees in Organ and German from Oberlin College and upon receipt of her Master’s degree from New England Conservatory she was invited to join the faculty there, where she taught for many years, serving ultimately as department co-chair. She has also served on the faculties at Westminster Choir College, Brandeis University, and the University of Connecticut, and as Assistant University Organist at Harvard.
