Welcome Our New Seminarian

Join us in welcoming Nicole Lambelet, a first year M.Div. student at Emory University's Candler School of Theology, as our new seminarian. She will be helping with worship and youth Sunday school on Sundays and will be participating in other ministries during the week. Nicole is a postulant in the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana and is seeking ordination to the priesthood. Originally from New Mexico, Nicole has worked at the intersections of food production, justice organizing, and violence prevention. Most recently, Nicole has worked as a volunteer chaplain at Memorial Hospital and an advocate at the rape crisis center in South Bend, Indiana. Both of these experiences have led her to explore the vocation of chaplaincy. Nicole is married to Kyle, a Postdoctoral Fellow at Emory, and has two children: Garren, 8, and Naomi, 5.

Peachtree Road Race 2017

Everyone is invited to the Cathedral to watch the annual Peachtree Road Race on Tuesday, July 4! If you’re not running, bring your family and friends, and chairs or blankets. Please plan to arrive by 6:30 a.m. when Peachtree Road is closed to vehicles in this area. We will cheer the runners and celebrate with prayer together on the lawn. If you are running in the Peachtree Road Race, please contact Dan Murphy at 404-365-1045 or dmurphy@stphilipscathedral.org so we know to look for you and can cheer you on!

Reimagining Charity and Service

Our adult series will explore the concepts of charity, service, and poverty; consider new paradigms relating to charity; and invite reflection on our own practices relating to these areas: what seems to be working, what doesn’t, and where do we go from here? The series will be led by Canon Cathy Zappa and others, with a special presentation on March 19 by Shawn Duncan. Shawn is a teacher, preacher, and community organizer, and is the director of training and education at Focused Community Strategies (FCS), an organization with almost 40 years of experience transforming underserved neighborhoods in Atlanta.

Understanding Medicare

If you have Medicare, will be aging in to Medicare in the coming year, or are responsible for a family member on Medicare, join parishioner Betsy Elliot for a one-hour review of Medicare on Monday, March 20 at either 10 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. in the Gould Room. In this class you will learn what Medicare covers, options available to Medicare enrollees including Medicare Advantage, prescription drug plans, and supplement plans (often referred to as Medigap). We will review questions to ask when deciding how to coordinate your healthcare coverage. This class is open to the public. If you have questions about the class, contact Betsy Elliott, 404-274-6868 or belliott@healthmarkets.com. So that we will have an idea of how many to expect, please RSVP to Betsy.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Grab your party hats and join us in Child Hall for our last night of silliness before the Lenten season begins. Parishioners of all ages are invited to this Mardi Gras-themed party on Tuesday, February 28 starting at 5:30 p.m. Enjoy pancakes prepared by Flora and Flora, hear sweet tunes played by Dean Candler, join in a kids parade, and catch some beads from our Mardi Gras Court! Dinner is $6/person; children under 3 are free. Sign up online at stphilipscathedral.org/shrovetuesday or in the Atrium on Sunday, February 26.

Volunteer for Finance Count Teams

Do you enjoy teamwork and want to make new friends? Opportunities are available to serve on the very necessary, but often unheralded, finance count teams. These volunteers count the offering each Sunday morning. Each team consists of four to five individuals who serve during the Sunday morning services about once every two months. Due to recent relocations, the Cathedral needs some new count team members this year. If you are interested in serving in this parish ministry, please call Emily Bazzel at 404-365-1074.
