From the Steering Committee
We love the Cathedral of St. Philip. Coming from various backgrounds and with different histories here, we have seen the Cathedral parish change over time. Some of us have watched it grow from an intimate, shingled structure with the even cozier Mikell Chapel to the magnificent Nave in place today. Others of us joined more recently, in the time since the last capital campaign in the early 2000s, and look forward to doing our part to strengthen the Cathedral further.
As our buildings and campus have grown, so have our congregation, our formation opportunities, and our outreach programs. The Cathedral’s people and programs enable us to reach a wider community and become a holy place of worship and service beyond our physical walls. We love the proposed new space, and love even more how it will create new communities and missions, both within and beyond the physical space. Our role is to welcome and create space for all God’s children to seek him, and we find the Good Faith Chapel uniquely positioned to do so.
The Good Faith Chapel will offer a contemplative worship space with seating for about 300, bridging the gap between the Nave and Mikell Chapel. It will be an “adaptive” space, allowing reconfiguration beyond just moving chairs from one place to another, supporting various worship gatherings. The space will include state-of-the-art display technologies offering various presentation options. This new form of experiential worship will touch more lives, without changing or giving up any of our existing Cathedral worship.
We are so excited that we are intentionally exploring the opportunity to reach back to our Anglican roots to worship and pray in the round, as the earliest Christians did. The Good Faith Chapel can provide an intimate opportunity, a place for the parish, the community, and the City of Atlanta to engage in prayer and meditation, looking into each other’s faces and experiencing God in a new way.
This new addition will be funded entirely by this Cathedral community – a community who worships together, learns together, and serves together. We believe this chapel will provide necessary space for the life of the Cathedral parish and broader community. Please, join us in supporting the campaign for the Good Faith Chapel.
