Greetings! Progress on the Good Faith Chapel construction is underway!
In the last few weeks, Georgia Power and Atlanta Gas Light relocated their lines to the Cathedral and construction crews are preparing to mobilize. And, construction of the new playground on the Peachtree side of the Preschool is underway! Here is what you can expect in the coming month:
- Week of December 2: Fencing will be installed around Good Faith Chapel site, trees and playground equipment will be removed, and temporary walls will be installed in the hallway near the Gould Room and youth classrooms. Going forward, access to the Gould Room will be through Child Hall only. Access to the youth classrooms will be via the Child Hall breezeway stairs.
Traffic patterns will change:- On weekdays, the Andrews Drive driveway will be closed in both directions. All cars will enter and exit at Peachtree Road; pedestrians can access the Cathedral campus from Andrews Drive via the stone path at the Lanier House or a new sidewalk leading to Mikell Chapel. However, please do not park on Andrews Drive on weekdays.
- On weekends and on Christmas Eve, the Andrews Drive driveway will be one-way only into the parking lot. All cars will exit at Peachtree Road. Pedestrians can access the Cathedral campus from Andrews Drive via the driveway, the stone path at the Lanier House, or a new sidewalk leading to Mikell Chapel.
- We have worked with the Georgia Department of Transportation to change the traffic light timing at Peachtree Road. As always, please drive slow, use courtesy, and exercise patience.
- Week of December 9: Excavation will begin, and demolition near stairwell and cloister will begin.
- Late December: Concrete foundation pouring will begin.
If you have questions or concerns during the construction process, please contact me at 404-365-1033 or drocchio@cathedralATL.org.
Happy Thanksgiving!
