The Cathedral of St. Philip - Atlanta, GA

The Annual Parish Meeting Of The Cathedral Of St. Philip Is This Sunday At 9:30 A.M.!

An article from the Cathedral Times
by the Very Reverend Samuel G. Candler,
Dean of the Cathedral of St. Philip

Please join us this Sunday, December 10, 2006, at 9:30 a.m., in the Cathedral, for our Annual Parish Meeting. This is one time of the year when all members, all associate members, friends, and visitors, can gather together in the nave for common celebration and rejoicing.

And there is much to celebrate this year!

We will vote on the slate of Chapter nominees, Junior Warden, and Cathedral Board of Trustees. What an excellent group has been proposed by the Nominating Committee (see page 4 for this year's slate). I have already appointed Ray Hill as Senior Warden for 2007. Congratulations to Ray!

We will hear particularly about three of the Cathedral's ministries: our mission and outreach program, our youth program, a new program for the elderly. We will hear reviews of our financial situation and hopes for our 2007 pledge season.

We will distribute the Annual Report, with its complete review of the 2006 year. Finally, I will present a verbal report of my own hopes for our common 2007 ministry. I am eager for the Cathedral of St. Philip to continue its service of leadership and grace to the wide Episcopal Church and to the entire Anglican Communion. Join us!

Remember that our 8:45 Eucharist is quite short this Sunday. We will hear only a brief service of word (and a very brief homily!), before we take communion; that service should conclude by 9:30 am. There will be no 9:00 Eucharist in the Mikell Chapel. No adult classes will meet during the annual parish meeting. The 11:15 Eucharist will occur as usual.

All 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders may join their families for the entire 8:45 service; there will be no special chapel for them. These children will then be dismissed at 9:30 to attend regular Church School in their classrooms. All Preschool Children will attend Children's Worship in the Children's Chapel and then return to their classrooms for an extended class (these preschool children will not join their families in the Cathedral).

Blessings and grace to all who participate in the mission and ministry of the Cathedral of St. Philip!
