An article from the Cathedral Times
by the Very Reverend Samuel G. Candler,
Dean of the Cathedral of
St. Philip
Christ is risen!
We celebrated the joy of
the Lord's resurrection with mighty enthusiasm this past Sunday. But the
Cathedral of St. Philip could not have celebrated so splendidly without
your offerings and ministry. When all is said and done, the Cathedral
of St. Philip is not a building or a set of programs at all. The
Cathedral of St. Philip is a community of faith.
Many
of our visitors and friends"”and we have thousands!"”see the Cathedral
only as a building, or a history, or a place to pray. Yes, it is those
things, but it is much, much more. Our building, and our history, and
our prayer opportunity could not exist without the generosity of a
lively community of faith.
Thank you. Thank you so
much for being that community of faith. I know many of you personally,
and there are many more of you whom I do not know so well. But I thank
God for you. You worked faithfully this past week, and this past month,
and this past year. You taught, and served, and ministered with grace
and hospitality.
It is because of you, the community
of faith, that the Cathedral of St. Philip could host such resurrection
power this past Sunday. Every single one of you played a part. As I
tried to say on Sunday, I love you. I love being a part of this
community, the Cathedral of St. Philip. Let us take the love we know
together out into the world during this Easter
season!
The Very Reverend Sam Candler
