Dale Adelmann Accepts Our Call To Be Canon for Music!

An article from the Cathedral Times
by the Very Reverend Samuel G. Candler,
Dean of the Cathedral of St. Philip

It is with tremendous excitement, and with great pleasure, and with eager thanksgiving, that I made a special announcement this past Sunday:  The Cathedral of St. Philip has called a new Canon for Music at the Cathedral!

This past week, our call was accepted by Mr. Dale Adelmann, who is presently the Director of Music at All Saints' Episcopal Church, Beverly Hills, California. We will look forward to welcoming Dale to the Cathedral over the summer, and he will officially begin his ministry in August. But for now, here are some things to know about him:

Since 2003, Dale Adelmann has served at All Saints' Episcopal Church, Beverly Hills, a lively, energetic, and creative Episcopal Church in a challenging area. At All Saints', Dale has supervised and conducted three different choirs: the All Saints' Choir, a Parish Choir, and the children's Choristers program.

From 1991 through 2003, Dale was the Organist-Choirmaster at St. Paul's Cathedral in Buffalo, New York, again supervising and conducting a variety of choirs. While in Buffalo, he was also the Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus from 2001 to 2003.

Academically, Dale graduated with high distinction from the University of Michigan, before earning a Masters in Music degree from the Yale University School of Music and the Institute of Sacred Music in 1986. In 1993, he was awarded his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge, England (St. John's College).

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Dale Adelmann in our (long!) search process, and I am eager for him to join this outstanding cathedral staff. He will add steady energy, wisdom, and care to our musical community, and also to our entire Cathedral community.

As we prepare to welcome Dale, I want to thank so many parishioners who have assisted our music and our search during the past year. I thank David Fishburn, and I thank our Canon for Music Advisory Committee. But I especially thank my friend and colleague, William Fred Scott, who has led this past year not only our music programs, but also our advisory committee itself. It has been a joy and honor to work with him and so many great talents in our Cathedral music program. Now, all of us are eager to welcome Dale Adelmann to our city and community, and to begin a great new chapter here at the Cathedral of St. Philip. More details to follow!
