The Cathedral Thrift House has been serving the Cathedral and the Atlanta community since 1949. You know the drill: (1) you donate your gently used, quality items, (2) the Thrift House sells them, and (3) the profits are distributed to local charities.
But, do you know the specific accomplishments that come from your donations?
The Thrift House has given $200,000 to the Cathedral’s Capital Campaign and Endowment Fund over the years, as well as other Cathedral needs. Some of our large, additional contributions are:
- Elevator $130,000 (1992)
- Lanier House Apartment $150,000 (1993-95)
- Cathedral Organ Console $360,000 (2010-11)
The Thrift House also has donated over $300,000 to Atlanta community nonprofits including:
- Georgia Innocence Project $23,000 (2006)
- Emmaus House $27,000 (2008 and 2015)
- Good Samaritan Health Center $25,000 (2009)
- Boyce L. Ansley School $10,000 (2017)
- Respite Care Atlanta $6,000 (2019, to date)
The beautiful sounds from the Cathedral organ; education for a homeless child; respite care for a family member or friend—all these benefits result from your Thrift House donations. Thrift House Manager Nellie Holleman, our volunteers, and our employees, are the conduit; but it all begins with your donation. We want the Thrift House to have the best merchandise assortment ever for the upcoming Christmas season and beyond. We need your donations to make that happen.
And, by the way, come shop with us! We have some fantastic and unique treasures. Thank you for your 70 years of support. It is an astonishing record of generosity.
