Wednesday Nights on the Lawn

Bring a blanket or lawn chair and join us Wednesday evenings starting April 25 on the Lanier House Lawn for an old fashioned community picnic. Feel free to bring your own food and beverage or enjoy something from one of our vendors. Options will include market favorites: S&J's Woodfired Pizza, Good Food Kitchen (street tacos), and King of Pops. The Cathedral will also host our own food booth “Hot Diggity Dogs,” which will offer a variety of kid friendly meals. Hot dogs are $2 each and come with a glass of lemonade. Spring hours will be 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. See you on the lawn!

Newcomers Social Hour

Newcomers and new-ish-comers are invited to gather for a special social gathering on Sunday, May 6, at 5 p.m. in the Gould Room. This is always a newcomer favorite, with guests from different affinity groups to help plug folks in. I’m a newcomer too! And eager to get to know you better. Come enjoy some snacks and beverages procured by our doting Newcomer Committee. Come alone or bring a friend. Come comfortably or dressed to impress. Come to Evensong before (Canon Wallace Marsh’s last Evensong!) or just come to the Gould Room. But come see us and let us toast our collective newness.

Diocesan Pilgrimage

A pilgrimage-study week in Avila, Spain, based on the life and writings of St. John of the Cross, will be led by the Rev. Isaías Rodríguez, the Diocese of Atlanta’s canon for Hispanic ministries. From October 22-31, pilgrims will be based at the Carmelite International Center of Teresian and Sanjaunistic Studies in Avila. Visits to holy places in the lives of St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila are planned. To obtain a brochure and for more information, contact Canon Rodriguez, or 404-707-1217

Information Desk Volunteers Needed

Perhaps you have noticed the light is always ON at the Information Desk in the Atrium, signifying that the Cathedral is always open and welcoming. Volunteers staff the desk, now referred to as the Welcome Center, to extend greetings to parishioners and visitors, providing information and direction. Additionally, general calls coming into the Cathedral are answered here and directed as needed. Join this fun ministry by contacting Ivory Richardson, or 404-365-1037.

February 4 is Scout Sunday

Scout Sunday celebrates the founding of the Boy Scouts of America on February 8, 1910. In 2018, the Cathedral’s Boy Scout Troop 74 is also celebrating its own 67th birthday. It is a tradition for the Scouts of Troop 74 to observe Scout Sunday on February 4 by worshiping with their families and serving as ushers at the 8:45 a.m. service. All Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Scout leaders are invited to join this service in uniform, regardless of their troop or pack affiliation.

Newcomer Orientation – Fall 2017

Please join us for a newcomer orientation at 10:10 a.m. on Sunday, October 8 in Room 240, across from Child Hall. The class is designed for individuals interested in joining the parish and those newly registered as members. Come and meet fellow parishioners; learn about the variety of worship services, classes, and spiritual offerings at the Cathedral; and take a brief tour of the Cathedral campus. For more information, contact Janie Harris, 404-365-1079.

A Taste of Latin America 2017

Every year the Diocesan Hispanic Ministry Commission sponsors a special dinner called A Taste of Latin America, and it is a real fiesta! Hispanic members from several parishes will bring tasty Latin American food to share with guests at the special potluck meal. There will be music and dancing, craft items for sale, a raffle, and a silent auction - plus a piñata for the children, of course! This year’s dinner will be on Saturday, October 7, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. in Child Hall. Reservations and tickets are not required; after dinner, sombreros will be passed for donations. The funds from this year’s event will be used to help hurricane and earthquake victims in Latin America and the Caribbean. Friends and family members of all ages are welcome. Mark your calendar and plan to come!
