Evensong with Dedication of Stained Glass Windows

Our Evensong service next Sunday, October 27, observing the Feast of St. Simon and St. Jude, will include a special dedication of our new stained glass windows, which feature Bishops Alexander and Wright. With Dean Sam Candler officiating, Bishop Robert Wright preaching, and Bishop Neil Alexander assisting, this 4 p.m. Evensong will include a procession through the ambulatory to view the windows. If you aren’t sure what or where the ambulatory is, come find out!

The service of Choral Evensong (sung Evening Prayer) dates from the sixteenth century, yet has its roots in the far more ancient Daily Offices of Vespers and Compline. One of the jewels of our Anglican/Episcopal worship tradition, Evensong has given birth to one of the largest and richest bodies of sacred music outside of the Mass itself. It is, at its heart, a contemplative worship service, and much of the service is sung by the choir alone, employing sounds that span the known history of Christian music. It is a truly holy experience!
