Caring for Others So The Light Always Shines

The Cathedral Thrift House is celebrating its first anniversary in its new location at 1893 Piedmont Road on September 2! Our customers, volunteers, and employees often remark that the store is like no other thrift store. It is filled with energy, gracious staff, lots of good music, and quality bargains. Nellie Holleman, parishioner and store manager, recently described why it is a special gathering place for our community: “It is a place of wonderful light – the light in the eyes of our guests when they find a true treasure. But the brightest light is in the eyes of the less fortunate when we give them a fresh change of clothes, a comforting cup of soup or a few kind words.”

Your Cathedral Thrift House, now in its sixty-sixth year of operation, is a Cathedral ministry and witness to God’s grace and love for all people: our customers, our beneficiaries, our staff and our volunteers. Over the past 15 years we have contributed over $1.1 million to the community and to the Cathedral. Historically, a portion of our net profits funded Cathedral capital needs, such as the new organ console and the labyrinth. We recently amended our bylaws to direct all profits to community charities, emphasizing our mission to help those in need. This past year we contributed to the Open Door Community and to the Cathedral’s outreach efforts. Alice Remigailo, a volunteer, said recently, “I am amazed by what we accomplish, not by loving to recycle goods, but by recycling to love people.”

Help us keep the light shining! Donate quality items you no longer need, volunteer your time, spread the word, and shop! Visit us or call to volunteer!
