The Cathedral, along with four other area churches, founded Buckhead Christian Ministries (BCM) in 1987 as an emergency assistance provider. Over the years, BCM has expanded its services to include a continuum of services for individuals in varying stages of crisis; and the Cathedral has continued to support this ministry in many ways, including our annual food drives and many individual volunteers. This summer, BCM welcomed its new executive director, Daphne Walker, as longtime director Helen Cunningham moves into retirement. Daphne has a long history of public service, from serving as the president and CEO of the Partnership Against Domestic Violence, to her tenure as Chief Judge of the Magistrate Court of Clayton County, to her leadership in the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. While in her third term as a judge, she began to hear God calling her out of her comfort zone, to do something that might have a more direct and positive impact on people’s lives. She continues to be driven by a profound sense of call to serve Christ by serving the most vulnerable among us.
