The Cathedral of St. Philip - Atlanta, GA

Good-Bye To Elizabeth Rechter

An article from the Cathedral Times
by the Very Reverend Samuel G. Candler,
Dean of the Cathedral of St. Philip

Elizabeth Rechter, this Sunday, June 5, at a special reception at 10:10 am!

Elizabeth has served loyally and faithfully here for almost eleven years; and she has proved to be a true gift of spiritual strength to many of us. With her deep experience and talent, Elizabeth senses a call to two new and exciting things in her life; the west coast and a position of rector of a parish. She and her family will move this summer to the west coast while she interviews in several Episcopal churches for the position of rector.

We will miss Elizabeth, and we will miss Jay and Jonathan and Caroline, too. Elizabeth has beautifully led the Cathedral in areas of mission, contemplative spirituality, women's study groups, and spiritual direction; and, of course, she has also served faithfully in regular preaching, teaching, and pastoral care. Her contributions in all those areas will remain forever in the community of the Cathedral of St. Philip.

Canon Rechter will preach this Sunday, June 5, at the 8:45 and the 11:15 services. Between those two services, we will celebrate a reception for her (thanks to Ruth Vaught!). I hope we can send her forth this Sunday with tremendous thanks, blessings, and congratulations. She deserves it, and we can proud to send her forth from this community.

I invite you, and encourage you, to contribute financially to a special "Thanksgiving for Elizabeth" purse. If you would like, please make out a check to "The Cathedral of St. Philip," designated "Thanksgiving for Elizabeth" gift. Our thanksgiving gift will enable her to enjoy some moving time, and some sabbatical rest, before she begins her new ministry.

Blessings, and thanks, always, to Elizabeth,
